There's alot of different things that this song envelopes. The events on sept. 11th 2001 brought out a lot of amazing things in many people, and a lot of awful things in others. I guess we all know where we stand. I'd just like to point out what these words are pointing to. The first lines,... Bush in his origional address said that the reason america was attacked was because we are the biggest beacon for freedom, and that nothing can take that from us. That is not why the whole mess happened, and i think almost all of us know that. The new found patriotism comments,... patriotism is fine i suppose (although do not agree). I'm talking about the fact that some of the new found "patriots" are nothing more than new found racists. Some examples,... "No Arabs Welcome" posted outside a bar,... A Mesa convieniant store owner killed,... Another killed several days later, the same person attempting to kill another, then driving to the house he had sold years earlier to muslims, and shot at them as well,.. all local happenings,.... These are not minor events just because they don't make it on to CNN and every local network that doesn't put on pokemon instead. (sorry, actually, i think it was digimon). Nonviolent forms of these things are even more abundant. Bomb threats keep popping up left and right, and what are you supposed to do. Can you really just ignore them when any one of the thousands might be real?... "Kill the fucking dune niggers" - some frat kid as i was walking to my car after a party at a friend's apartment,.... The lines regarding innocents and punishment are basically begging the question, "Once we find out where the terrorists are "harbored", is it right to kill thousands of innocents because they live there too, and their nation chose to "harbor"?". The last line is in regards to the immence ammounts of comments people had made about a video showing Palestinians dancing and cheering in light of the news of the situation in America. Wow,... that made so many people mad. "Look at them laughing and being happy, even if it's not them, which it's obvious it is, they deserve to get bombed". Comments like that are so fucking stupid. If we DO bomb them back, isn't it obvious that similar videos of people in america could be filmed?... In the end, it turned out that that video was filmed in 91 or 92. The screen showed "file footage" or something to the extent of that in the corner. Of course no one ever bothered to explain that. In the middle of everything going on,... why would film from 91 of something like that be shown. It really makes you wonder,.... if you weren't wondering already. Such a society that sets strict codes of conduct for our emotions to train themselfs to is a corrupt and heartless society.  When we standardize and assign specific character traits to groups of individuals such as male/female/black/white/homosexual/etc., we only teach ourselfs to see each other as a gender/class/or sex rather then human beings. It is integral to human development that we work together to destroy such standards that bind us to these dominative beliefs.  Humans are not meant to be catagorized, we need to learn how to let ourselfs develop best to our personalities, not according to the thought ghetto's we're all born to be trapped in. Love and hate keep humanity locked into a set paradigm of thinking.  This unhealthy tradition ensures that humans will live unhappy and unfulfilled lives.  Who's to create such standardizations that keep people jealous and envious of each other?  Let not these sexual and ethnical standards dictate your emotions.  No where does it say that it is natural for someone to only love one other person, yet hate as many as you want.  These imbalances in our formed social habbits help us grow farther appart with each passing day.  Only in our daily practice and ritual can we create or abolish such illogical boundry's of human compassion and emotion. Perhaps it is just a total locational thing, or perhaps my memory is just not helping me out here, but untill moving to arizona, i don't ever remember the girls / women ever getting "dressed up" at shows. Not to say that those same unconcious desires were not in effect at some other level, but there's just something really weird to me about people getting "done up" when going to shows. It really is kind of disappointing. I must say also,  that I don't really agree with what this song has to say 100%. My outlook on this subject is that it's natural to "want to be wanted"*, therefore people trying to make themselves into something they think "potential mates" would be attracted to, makes sence to me. And it definatly is not just the females that play that part at all. I don't like to play that game, and I definatly think that the human race takes this idea way out of proportion, but when I look at myself, and even other people that have squee's idea,... With these family values such as our developed perception of beauty, race, and copeing skills comes far worse standards.  Basicly all forms of prejudice originate from the family and are gone on ignored in the public school system. From ages 6-16 the government has assigned itself as the guiding force in your life.  Of course, the real parent is always going to have natural bonding with the child so family values will still be passed down. In order to change the threatening conditions we are currently in, first we have to change our percetion of life itself and the family values that come along with it.  Unfortunatly these ideas have been punded into our kept ignorant skulls for so long, only a mathamatician  could tell you how long it would take to reverse the effects.  It is possible for humans to cooperate and live together in peacefull societys without the threat of ethical and moral flaws which we let form to control us.
